It has been a wonderfully busy week at Erdington with students taking part in trips and a variety of visitors coming to the academy: Year 10 students have been visiting local colleges and also to the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford University this week whilst Year 8 students have been also considering their ambitions at our Careers Fair as they decide which subjects to choose for their GCSE options. Year 7 students have also visited Birmingham Symphony Hall to explore the history of music.
Competition has been a theme of this week though as Year 9 have been taking part in a UK Maths challenge event with the University of Leeds and students also involved in Debate Mate competitions against other schools. We also welcomed travel company, Jet 2, to the academy as our Year 8 and Year 9 students accepted the challenge of producing marketing materials for a new theme park based in Majorca called Sol Katmandu. The ‘ultimate school trip’ is a national competition the company is running for students to use their creative skills to promote the park – with a trip for their class to the exciting Spanish theme park for 40 students the prize!
