Dear parents and carers
It is with great sadness that I am writing to tell you of the untimely death of our former Chief Executive Officer, Andy Bird.
Andy died peacefully at Burton Hospital on Sunday 24th February after a short illness. I am sure you will be as shocked as I am of his passing at such a young age and join me in sending your condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
Andy was dedicated to Fairfax Multi Academy Trust, to each of our four academies, to our students and to our staff.
He was enormously energetic believing that education is the bedrock for a successful and fulfilling life and enabling the Trust to achieve its aim of preparing and equipping each and every one of our students with the skills to succeed in the 21st Century.
Andy joined the Fairfax family in 2012 as Head Teacher at Fairfax School where he exhibited his drive for school and student improvement. He became the first CEO of Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust in July 2014 – a Trust that was established with his enthusiasm, commitment and vision. He left Fairfax Multi Academy Trust last year taking up the post of Interim CEO at Venturers Trust, Bristol. Andy had previously been Deputy Head Teacher at Cannock Chase High School; Vice Principal at Q3 Academy in Great Barr, and Assistant Principal at The de Ferrers Academy in Staffordshire.
Andy was a dynamic and inspirational leader who consistently strived for the very best. He always put young people at the centre of his thinking and was as much an inspiration to them as he was to our staff.
Throughout his time with Fairfax, no matter the role, he exhibited huge determination and energy. He was never afraid to try new methods and approaches.
His early death is a great shock and sadness.
We will be marking his contribution to the Fairfax community and will be writing to you with further information once those details have been finalised.
