Headteacher’s Blog – 22nd December 2017

Community has been a real theme of the final week of term with staff and students really showing the togetherness that makes Erdington Academy a truly special place. We saw the wonderful array talent of students in our annual Culture Fest on Tuesday night which celebrated the diversity of our community: students performed drama sketches, dance routines and sang harmoniously together in what is always a highlight of our year. I would like to thank the students and staff for their dedication and the hard work that went into the performances and the many parents/carers who were able to join us. We are proud to be such a diverse and welcoming school.

This week also saw many students working with the local community to support in fundraising and events. Our students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme raised money for a local hospice at Sainsbury’s Castle Vale by courteously packing customers‘ Christmas shopping while our school choir performed carols at an event hosted by the YMCA.

Our staff have also been thinking about those less fortunate in our community this week and we have collected together donations for the local Erdington Foodbank which does such great work supporting the most vulnerable at this time of the year.

It has been a wonderful term at Erdington Academy and as we enter a new year, I’m excited about everything 2018 holds. I have written to all families over students at the academy today; I wish you all a wonderful time together with family and friends over the holiday period.
