Our Vision:

Within Food Preparation & Nutrition at Erdington Academy we endeavour to make the subject as inspiring, creative, rigorous and practical as possible. We want our students to develop interests and acquire skills across the areas of Food and Catering, Textiles, Graphics, Resistant Materials and Product Design. Using creativity and imagination, we encourage students to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

At Key Stage 3 and 4, students acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on wider disciplines such as Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful,  innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Students study designs and products from the past and present, understand sustainability 6 Rs in design and embrace changes in new technology and its impact on daily life and the wider world.

In the department, we promote independent learning and group work.  We aim to equip students with knowledge and skills they will need to gain access to further education and the modern workplace. We create stimulating environments with the display of students work celebrating their achievement. We challenge students to make rapid progress in the subject, producing work of high standard and presentation. In turn, staffs facilitate this through planning and delivering high quality lessons, assessing work and giving feedback on how to make further progress towards their targets and beyond.
